All smiles as King and Queen meet Sir David Beckham at Chelsea Flower Show

The King has toured the Chelsea Flower Show where he greeted Sir David Beckham, mingled with other celebrities and stopped to smell the roses.

King Charles and Queen Camilla visited the world-famous horticultural attraction on Monday, stopping to examine different plants and gardens on their annual visit.

During the visit, the King examined the King's Foundation Curious Garden - a centrepiece in which he had collaborated with Sir David and TV gardener Alan Titchmarsh.

He met the pair inside a wooden hut on the site filled with gnomes, artwork, dangling plants, balls of yarn, jars of honey and even vodka.

The King stopped to smell some roses that were part of the display featuring three different varieties of the flower, one named after him and the others after Sir David and Mr Titchmarsh.

Sir David wore his namesake flower in his buttonhole, after his daughter Harper commissioned it for his 50th birthday.

When the King greeted Sir David, the former footballer said: "Thank you sir".

Complimenting Mr Titchmarsh on the garden, Queen Camilla said: "This is so nice. It looks natural, doesn't it?"

The King also met with Dame Judi Dench outside the Campaign to Protect Rural England's garden.

He described the artwork, a Gaia - Mother Nature - figure, as "extraordinary" while Dame Judi said it was "just beautiful".

The King also greeted a cocker spaniel called Zinc at the Animal and Plant Health Agency's "scents and sensors" exhibit, which explores how detection dogs can help to combat plant pests and diseases.

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, The Princess Royal and The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester separately toured the show on Monday evening.
