Bury have bolstered their squad with the signings of Scott Duxbury from Radcliffe and Callum Spooner from Hyde United, as manager Dave McNabb begins shaping his team ahead of the new campaign.
Duxbury, 30, is a seasoned non-league defender capable of playing both left-back and centre-back. He made 50 appearances for Radcliffe last season, starting 42 times. His career includes spells with Stockport County – where he won the National League North title – as well as Warrington Rylands, Spennymoor Town, Boston United, AFC Fylde, Chorley, and Northwich Victoria.
“I’m absolutely buzzing to sign for Bury Football Club,” said Duxbury. “It’s a massive opportunity, and I’m so grateful to be part of this journey. I can’t wait to get started, meet the fans, and give everything for this club.”
Manager Dave McNabb praised the defender’s credentials: “Scott has spent most of his career playing higher up the non-league pyramid and will bring a lot of experience and steel to the group. He’s an accomplished defender with an elite mentality.”
Joining him is midfielder Callum Spooner, 27, who signs after a successful four-year stint with Hyde United, aside from a brief spell at Southport. He captained Hyde to the Cheshire Senior Cup title and has also played for Stalybridge Celtic, Atherton Collieries, and Bamber Bridge.
Rochdale-born Spooner came through the Bolton Wanderers academy and is known for his composure and intelligence on the ball.
“I’m delighted to sign for the club,” said Spooner. “From the outside, you can see how different it is from other clubs at the level. After speaking to Dave and Tim, it was obvious that the style of play and ambitions suit mine as a player, so it was an easy decision.”
McNabb added: “Cal is a player I’ve chased for a long time. He’s a dynamic midfield player who’s got it all. Excellent on the ball, comfortable receiving in tight areas and building the game.”
Both signings reflect the club’s ambition to strengthen its squad with players who bring not only ability but also leadership and experience as Bury look ahead to a competitive season.
