A mother and her newborn baby have been located safe and well following a police investigation sparked by the discovery of a placenta in Werneth Park, Oldham, earlier today (Friday 28 March 2025).
Greater Manchester Police launched an urgent appeal after the placenta was discovered in the park. This prompted concerns for the wellbeing of a potentially vulnerable woman and child. After swift enquiries, officers confirmed that both mother and baby have been found, are receiving care, and are doing well.
GMP said in a statement:
“We are pleased to say that they are both safe and doing well. Alongside medical professionals, we have conducted several enquiries and are satisfied that the identity of those who have come forward match the placenta found.”
The police have now closed the scene, and confirmed that no suspicious or untoward circumstances were identified during their investigation.
Officers expressed their gratitude to members of the public who provided information and cooperated with the temporary closure of the park.
“We want to thank members of the public who have assisted us and cooperated with the closure of the park today, and hope that this update provides closure to any earlier concerns,” the statement concluded.
The investigation is now closed.
