A 71-year-old man has died after being struck by a car while crossing a road in Salford.
At around 9.05pm yesterday, (Saturday 3 May 2025), emergency services were called to Eccles Old Road, close to the junction with Manor Road, following reports of a serious collision involving a pedestrian and a car.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed that the man was attempting to cross the second lane when he was hit by the vehicle. Despite the efforts of first responders, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle, a 68-year-old man, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He remains in police custody as enquiries continue.
The force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit is appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed the incident, or who may have dash cam or mobile phone footage from the area around the time of the collision, to come forward.
