Four arrested and teenager charged following Salford disorder

Police have made fresh arrests after a large group blocked the road with cars and bins in Salford earlier today.

Four more people have been arrested this evening (Tuesday 11 June) following a disorder incident in Salford earlier today, Greater Manchester Police have confirmed.

At around 1.30pm, officers responded to reports of 50 to 60 people gathering on Lower Broughton Road, where vehicles and wheelie bins were used to block the road. Officers swiftly intervened and have since arrested four individuals in connection with three separate incidents in the area.

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of theft and public order offences. A man in his 30s was taken into custody on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly and possession of Class A drugs.

Two further arrests were made: men aged 18 and 19 were detained on suspicion of possessing a bladed article.

Additionally, a 16-year-old girl has been charged with assaulting an emergency worker. She has been bailed and will appear in court at a future date.

Her identity has not been released due to legal reasons.

Superintendent Marcus Noden of GMP sought to reassure the public, saying:

“I wanted to provide a further update into the disorder in Salford this afternoon. I would like to stress that there have been no further incidents since our last update.

“We have robust plans in place should any further incidents arise in the area, and we will take action like we did earlier on in the day, should we need to.”

A dispersal order remains in place across Salford until 2pm tomorrow (Wednesday 12 June), giving police the power to remove or arrest anyone who refuses to comply.

Police continue to monitor the situation closely and have urged residents to report any further disturbances or suspicious behaviour.
