Firefighters are tackling a blaze on the outskirts of Rochdale town centre this afternoon.
Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue service have sent eight fire engines to the scene on Summer Street after being called just after 2pm.

A fire service spokesperson has provided the following update:
“Fire crews remain at the scene and are using a turntable ladder and hose reels to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to surrounding buildings.
“We ask that residents keep away from the area and keep doors and windows closed.”

People have taken to social media to post photos of the blaze, which can be seen for miles around. Residents in Wardle and Norden have been able to smell smoke from the incident.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Just before 2pm today (Saturday, 22nd June), firefighters were called to reports of a fire at a commercial property on Summer Street in Rochdale.
“Eight fire engines from Rochdale, Heywood, Littleborough, Oldham, Hollins, Blackley and Ashton fire stations are currently at the scene with crews working hard to make the area safe.”
