Officers are appealing for information following a fatal fire in Oldham last night (Thursday 20 February 2025).
At around 8.25pm emergency services responded to reports of a property fire at a flat on Walkers Road, in the Hollins area of the town.
Several fire crews and police patrols attended but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
Work is ongoing to fully establish the identification of the person.
An investigation is currently underway and specialist teams are assessing the flat to establish a cause of the ignition.
Detective Inspector Roberto Dicorato, from GMP’s Oldham district, said: “A person has sadly lost their life following the fire last night, and we are working closely with partners in the fire service to establish the exact cause.
“We have not yet established the full circumstances and would ask anyone with any information, or who witnessed the fire last night, to please get in touch. This includes anyone with nearby CCTV or doorbell footage.”
