Weekly 2k event offers free, fun fitness for four to 14 year-olds in the heart of the park
Young runners in Rochdale are being invited to lace up their trainers and head to Queens Park in Heywood this Sunday, 10 August, as the junior parkrun returns.
Held every Sunday at 9am, the Queens Park junior parkrun is a free, timed 2k event aimed at children aged between four and 14. Participants can walk, jog or run the scenic route along the park's bridlepath.
The weekly event starts at the central fountain inside the park, where children, parents and volunteers gather for a quick briefing before setting off. The course is fully marshalled to ensure safety, and parents are welcome to accompany their child, cheer from the sidelines or join the volunteer team.
Organisers are keen to stress that it’s not a race, it's about having fun, keeping active, and starting Sunday mornings with a positive community spirit. New participants are asked to register online in advance and bring their barcode on the day to receive a finish time.
The initiative is part of the nationwide parkrun movement, which aims to promote wellbeing through inclusive, local events that are open to all abilities.
