A group of dedicated volunteers from Mayfield Rugby League Club have raised £8,556.87 after completing a 52-mile sponsored walk from Rochdale to Blackpool in support of three local charitable causes.
Known as the ‘Mayfield Movers’, the group made the trek to the Fylde coast to raise money for Springhill Hospice, the RBC Giving Back Christmas Toy Appeal, and Rochdale Masters.
Each of the three charities will receive an equal share of the final total, which was raised through a mix of sponsorships, donations and local fundraising.
The funds will support palliative care at Springhill Hospice, Christmas gifts for children in need through the Giving Back appeal, and continued wellbeing activities for older players through Rochdale Masters.
A club spokesperson said:
“We’re absolutely thrilled with the final amount raised. The determination of the Movers, combined with the incredible generosity of the community, has made a real difference. We’re proud to be able to support three fantastic causes that are so important to our town.”
The donations will be formally handed over to each organisation in the coming days.
