Bury AFC manager Andy Welsh has been announced as Manager of the Year for the North West Counties Division One North.
Welsh was appointed to the role in July 2020 after the role saw 750 applicants.
His first season in charge was very much interrupted by COVID and only managed seven league games after the season was curtailed in late December.
The 2021/22 season was much more favourable, winning the NWCFL Division One North by 11 points and maintaining an unbeaten home record.
Speaking to nwcfl.com Welsh said: “It’s an incredible privilege, but this award is really not about me.”
“It’s not about me as an individual or a striker who scores the winner or a keeper who stops a penalty, it’s about this club.
"We’ve been a solid group and this first season couldn’t have gone any better, it hasn’t fully sunk in for anyone involved with the club.
"To win the league with only one defeat, it’s huge credit to the players, the fans and the volunteers who have worked to make this club so great.
“Next year will be harder, but we’ve started working towards it and are looking forward to the challenge.”
Welsh's side will be playing in the NWCFL Premier Division following promotion in March.
Three pre-season games have been confirmed for Bury AFC so far, they will travel to Guiseley, FC United of Manchester & Stockport Town, with more to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
The club are also hosting a family fun day on Sunday afternoon at Unsworth Cricket Club from 12pm. More details can be found here
