Community Corner
Monday, 19 June 2023 - 9 minutes
The organisers of Bury Mela, the town's South Asian Community Festival have confirmed that the festival will go ahead next month.
As there were concerned as to where funding would come from, after not being accepted for Arts Council Funding.
Over 3000 people attended the debut festival last summer at Openshaw Park.
The founder of the festival & local councillor in Bury East Ward Cllr Ummrana Farooq joins us to discuss this.
An Arts Council England spokesperson told Roch Valley Radio: “Our National Lottery Project Grants programme has a high level of competition for funds which unfortunately means we are unable to support all of the good applications we receive with the budget available. Applicants can apply again and we are always happy to provide feedback to help them develop future applications. We met with Cllr Farooq recently to offer advice around further funding applications.”
