Married British couple on honeymooon killed in Greek helicopter crash

A married British couple who died in a helicopter crash in Greece while on their honeymoon have been named.

Alex Cromie and Marie Ebert were identified as the couple who died in the tragedy in Greece on Monday.

Asset management firm Blackstone where Mr Cromie worked as a vice president in private wealth, released a statement on Tuesday saying it is "shocked" by the couple's death.

The helicopter went down on the ‌island of Sifnos, killing the pilot and ‌two passengers, officials said.

The ‌cause of the crash is unknown.

After hitting a hillside shortly after take off, the smash sparked a fire in the Tholos part of Sifnos and the bodies of three people were recovered from the site, the fire service said.

Images shown on local TV channels showed what appeared to be the crash site on a barren hillside, where a ball of flame created a plume of dark smoke.

A spokesperson for Blackstone said: "We are shocked by the tragic passing of three people including our colleague Alex Cromie and his wife Marie Ebert, who were celebrating their honeymoon.

"Alex was beloved by everyone who knew and worked with him at Blackstone, and our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones."

Mr Cromie's LinkedIn profile said he had worked at Blackstone for four years, first as associate in private wealth solutions before being made a vice president last January.

Ms Ebert was a senior specialist at the management consultancy, Bain & Company, according to her LinkedIn page.

A spokesperson for the firm said: "Our thoughts are with Marie's family, with her husband Alex's family, and with the friends and colleagues who are grieving them both.

"We also extend our sympathies to the family of the pilot who lost his life as well.

"Marie will be greatly missed by all of us at Bain, and we are doing everything we can to support her family and colleagues at this time."

Sifnos, located in the Cyclades islands in the Aegean Sea, has a permanent population of about 2,700 and has become a popular tourist destination.

A spokesperson for the FCDO said they are giving "consular support" and are in contact with the Greek authorities.
