A 36-year-old man has been charged with rape and murder following the death of a woman in her 80s in Cornwall.
Edward Holden, of Alexandra Place, Penzance, was charged after an incident in the Ashton area.
Officers were called to a property near Helston after midnight on Friday, Devon and Cornwall Police said.
Holden was due to appear before Truro Magistrates' Court on Monday.
Detective Inspector Pete Gee of Devon and Cornwall Police said on Saturday: "A police cordon has been established at the scene and inquiries are ongoing.
"At this time, I would like to reassure the community that incidents of this nature are very rare, but if anyone has any concerns, I encourage them to approach and speak to our officers.
"A heightened police presence is expected to remain in the area over the next few days as inquiries are ongoing."
