Body found in search for missing kayaker

A body has been found in the search for a missing kayaker in Devon.

Police said the remains were recovered from the River Exe on Thursday.

Officers were first called to the river, near the Great Western Bridge in Tiverton, at 3.50pm on Saturday.

It was reported that a man in his 40s had got into difficulties while kayaking.

His boat was later recovered following a search.

A spokeswoman for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Formal identification has yet to take place but the family of the missing kayaker - a man in his 40s - has been made aware of this development."

It comes after two bodies were found in the search for two men who went missing after going for a swim from a beach in Devon on Christmas Day.

The body of one of the men, believed to be antiques shop owner Matthew Upham, was recovered on Sunday, although formal identification is yet to be carried out.

The body of a 47-year-old man, thought to be the other swimmer, was recovered on 20 January.
