Alejandro Garnacho: Ex-Man Utd star convicted of speeding away from training ground days before he left

Ex-Manchester United footballer Alejandro Garnacho has been convicted of speeding away from the club's training ground just days before he left.

The 21-year-old Argentine was caught driving a powerful Audi at 50mph in a 40mph zone, close to his old side's Carrington facility in Greater Manchester, on 26 August last year.

He left the Red Devils for Chelsea in a £40m deal four days later.

Garnacho pleaded guilty to speeding at Liverpool Magistrates' Court, via lawyers, and issued an apology.

His representatives said he had been left "embarrassed" by the incident. A separate charge of failing to respond to a police letter about the speeding offence was dropped due to the guilty plea.

Garnacho was fined £660. He was also ordered to pay £120 in court costs and a £264 victim surcharge.

He was issued with three penalty points on his licence.

The court hearing, which took place behind closed doors, came two months after Garnacho's manager at Chelsea, Liam Rosenior, was also convicted of speeding.

Speeding makes up the vast majority of motoring offences in England and Wales, which are at a record high.
