Greenpeace activists stage demonstration at Trump Turnberry golf course in Scotland

Environmental activists staged a renewable energy demonstration at one of US President Donald Trump's golf courses in Scotland.

Greenpeace said three campaigners erected six mock-up wind turbines on the fourth hole green at the Trump Turnberry resort in South Ayrshire at about 6.30am on Monday.

When golfers later approached, the activists removed the turbine replicas so as not to disrupt their round.

The activists said their demo came in response to Mr Trump's dislike for wind turbines and his support for oil and gas energy.

It comes after the president posted on his Truth Social page last week supporting more oil and gas extraction in the North Sea.

He wrote: "Aberdeen should be booming. Norway sells its North Sea oil to the UK at double the price. They are making a fortune.

"UK, which is better situated on the North Sea for purposes of energy than Norway, should DRILL, BABY, DRILL!

"It is absolutely crazy that they don't... AND, NO MORE WINDMILLS!"

Greenpeace says 65% of Scots do not support Mr Trump's call for more oil and gas energy, instead supporting renewable energy.

Lily-Rose Ellis, Greenpeace climate campaigner, said: "The renewables Trump hates are the best insurance policy against the chaos he's unleashed.

"Wind and solar farms built since the start of the Ukraine war have saved us £7m every day since Trump attacked Iran and drove gas prices back up again.

"More clean energy that doesn't rely on the Strait of Hormuz or Russian pipelines can save us money, boost our security and tackle climate change. It's a hole in one."
