The Hundred: Joe Root, Adil Rashid among players in UK's first ever player auction at Piccadilly Lights

The Hundred's player auction is set to take place at Piccadilly Lights on Wednesday 11 and Thursday March 12.

The UK's first-ever player auction will feature 16 Hundred franchises picking up to 14 players for their men's and women's teams, with over 200 eligible players for teams to bid on.

The women's auction will open proceedings on March 11, with Beth Mooney, Nadine de Klerk and Amy Jones among others available, while Joe Root, Adil Rashid, and Jason Holder headline the men's auction, taking place a day later.

Each men's team has a salary cap of £2.05m in total - compared with £880,000 for the women's squad - minus the amount spent on direct signings already.

Players are divided into three tiers - Hero, Ranked and Nominated - based on the amount of aggregated pre-registered interest from each team. The Hero players will be bid on in the first phase of the auction, followed by the ranked and nominated players in the next two phases.

Every match from the men's and women's competitions will be live on Sky Sports, including the eliminators on Friday August 14 and finals on Sunday August 16, with every day seeing a women's game precede a men's fixture at the same venue.

Which players have already been signed for the 2026 Hundred season?

Jacob Bethell (Birmingham Phoenix), Jos Buttler (Manchester Super Giants) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (Trent Rockets) were among the big names retained, while Mitchell Marsh (Sunrisers Leeds), Alice Capsey (Birmingham Phoenix) and Smriti Mandhana (Manchester Super Giants) are three of the new signings.

Manchester Super Giants Women, MI London Women, Sunrisers Leeds Women and Welsh Fire Women only signed three players, so will have more money to play with at the auction, with £310,000 deducted from their overall salary pot of £880,000.

The other four women's sides - Birmingham Phoenix, London Spirit, Southern Brave and Trent Rockets - have had £360,000 deducted after making four signings or retentions.

Each of the men's teams have had £950,000 removed from their overall salary pot of £2.05m after making all four permitted signings during the pre-auction window.

Hundred franchises are now allowed to sign four overseas players, up from the previous three.
