Man Utd transfer news: Tyler Adams, Alex Scott and Mateus Fernandes emerge as possible signings as midfield plans ramp up

Manchester United are considering Bournemouth's Tyler Adams and Alex Scott, along with West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes, as part of their midfield rebuild this summer.

United are looking at midfield reinforcements with Casemiro leaving Old Trafford this summer at the at the end of his contract. The MLS appears his likely destination with Inter Miami strong contenders to sign the Brazil midfielder on a free transfer.

As previously reported by Sky Sports News, Elliot Anderson at Nottingham Forest, Carlos Baleba at Brighton and Newcastle's Sandro Tonali remain high up on the United list, with the club determined to keep their options open and their target list broad at this stage of the chase.

Manchester City have prioritised Anderson as a possible addition to their midfield, but the battle between the two Manchester clubs for a player valued at around £100m is likely to drag in a number of other big European sides, who have been impressed by the England international.

Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton and Wolves' Joao Gomes have also been discussed by United's recruitment team, with admiration too for Real Madrid's Aurelien Tchouameni and Lille's Ayoub Bouaddi.

Signing two elite-level central midfielders will be the focus of the summer spending at Old Trafford, with the boost in revenue from Champions League qualification increasing the chances that the club will also try to strengthen at left-back, left-wing and possibly even centre-back.

What does CL qualification mean for Man Utd's transfer plans?

Manchester United are likely to make around £200m next season, with half of that expected to be generated in the upcoming transfer window, and their return to the Champions League due to bring in up to £100m in extra revenue.

With that achievement and a big new injection of cash, it makes it more likely that Michael Carrick will be given the head coach's reins for the longer term.

It also means that United can significantly expand their transfer plans this summer as they look to add squad depth.

That depth will be needed, with many more games on the fixture list for next season and midfield is the obvious area in need of attention, with Manuel Ugarte expected to join Casemiro in leaving the club.

Inter Miami strong contenders to sign Casemiro

Meanwhile, Miami is said to be the city Casemiro and his family would like to live in the most as Inter Miami target a potential move for the 34-year-old.

Inter Miami are strong contenders for his signature and the conditions are right at the club after they acquired an international slot from New England Revolution.

Casemiro also wants to play with Lionel Messi, Sky Sports News understands - so much so that he is willing to reduce his salary demands to facilitate such a move.

Possibly LA Galaxy are the only other MLS club that could afford Casemiro, which means he is more likely to move to another country - such as Saudi Arabia - if an Inter move does not materialise.

'Bringing in a partner for Mainoo is Man Utd's big signing of the summer'

Sky Sports Paul Merson:

"There's still work to be done at Man Utd.

"They haven't got the biggest squad in the world and that will be tested next season when they have Champions League football to contend with.

"They also have to replace Casemiro, who has been excellent in recent months.

"Kobbie Mainoo has made Casemiro good, and Casemiro has made Mainoo good. They have worked for each other.

"But with Casemiro going, Man Utd have to fill that hole. They have to try and fill the experience void left by Casemiro's departure because Mainoo is young and still learning. Experience is so crucial, especially in a position like central midfield.

"Look at Levi Colwill's rise at Chelsea. When he came through he was playing next to Thiago SIlva, who was one of the best and had so much experience. That's gone for Chelsea now and Man Utd have to be careful when deciding who comes in to join Mainoo in midfield.

"Manuel Ugarte could also be off so they are going to be bare in midfield, considering they will have two games a week next season.

"Mainoo's midfield partner is the big signing for Man Utd this summer.

"I like Elliot Anderson. He's a really good player and he gets all over the pitch. Man City are keen but him and Mainoo together would have the legs Man Utd need, and that could even be a good partnership for England down the line.

"But Man Utd will need more than that in midfield this summer. they will need two at least and that will cost big money."

Neville names the FOUR priority signings for Man Utd this summer

Sky Sports' Gary Neville says Man Utd must make FOUR key signings this summer to go to the next level after securing Champions League football for next season with the 3-2 win over Liverpool on Sunday.

But pinpointing where the squad needs to improve, he told The Gary Neville Podcast: "I think Manchester United need a left-back for next season because Luke Shaw has played every game this season, and I think he may struggle.

"They need a centre-back, 100 per cent, and they need two central midfield players.

"They're the four priorities right now.

"Now, look, if you could then maybe trade Mason Mount for someone else who maybe can play in and out and be a bit more flexible across that midfield and forward line, I'd say, yeah, let's go for a fifth. But if you can't, I would say they're the four. And they've got to be top-notch, those four players. That's the real priority right now."
