Voters in Tottington will go to the polls on Thursday 2nd April 2026, following the resignation of Councillor Luis McBriar.
Two requests were submitted by registered electors in the Tottington ward asking the Returning Officer to hold a by election. The vote will fill the remainder of the current term, with the successful candidate serving for two years.
Residents voting in person will be required to show approved photo identification under national voter identification rules. Anyone without suitable ID can apply for a free voter authority certificate.
The by election is separate from the scheduled local elections taking place across the borough on Thursday 7th May 2026. On that date, electors will be able to vote for one candidate in each ward, including Tottington.
Prospective candidates must obtain nomination papers from the Returning Officer at Bury Town Hall. Completed forms must be returned by 4pm on Friday, 6th March 2026.
The Returning Officer can be contacted by email at electionservices@bury.gov.uk or by calling 0161 253 5252 for further information about standing for election or the voting process.
