Road closures and parking restrictions announced for Bury 10K Running Festival

Drivers urged to plan ahead as Sunday road closures set to impact key routes in Bury and Tottington

Residents and drivers in Bury are being warned of significant road closures and parking restrictions this weekend as the town prepares to host the Bury 10K and Mini and Junior Run.

The main event takes place on Sunday 7 September, with the majority of road closures starting from 8.30am. Some parking suspensions and waiting restrictions will also be enforced from Saturday 6 September.

Organisers say the measures are essential to ensure the safety of runners, volunteers and spectators. A number of key town centre roads and connecting routes will be affected for several hours.

Road closures – Sunday 7 September
All times are approximate and subject to change.

  • Bolton Street – The Rock to Harvard Road (8.30am–12.30pm)

  • Brandlesholme Road – Stafford Street to Woodhill Road (8.30am–11.30am)

  • Bury Road – Scobell Street to Market Street (8.30am–10.45am)

  • Castlecroft Road – Chamberhall Street to Bolton Street (8.30am–12.30pm)

  • Crostons Road – Bolton Street to Tottington Road, including slip road (8.30am–10.30am)

  • Dunster Road – Castlecroft Road to Harvard Road (8.30am–10.00am)

  • Harvard Road – Dunster Road to Peel Way, including slip road (8.30am–10.00am)

  • Harvard Road – Magdalene Road to Dunster Road (8.30am–11.45am)

  • Haymarket Street – The Rock to Moss Street (11.30am–12.30pm)

  • Laurel Street – Market Street to South Royd Street (8.30am–10.45am)

  • Magdalene Road – Castlecroft Road to Harvard Road (8.30am–11.45am)

  • Manchester Road – Silver Street to St Mary’s Place (11.30am–12.30pm)

  • Market Street – Bury Road to Chapel Street (8.30am–10.45am)

  • Moss Street – Haymarket Street to Silver Street (11.30am–12.30pm)

  • Scobell Street – Bury Road to Booth Street (8.30am–10.30am)

  • Silver Street – Bolton Street to Broad Street (8.30am–12.30pm)

  • Silver Street – Broad Street to Manchester Road (11.30am–12.30pm)

  • The Rock – Bolton Street to The Rock pedestrian area (8.30am–12.30pm)

  • Tottington Road – Crostons Road to Scobell Street (8.30am–10.30am)

  • Woodhill Road – Brandlesholme Road to Canterbury Drive (8.30am–11.30am)

No parking or waiting – Saturday 6 to Sunday 7 September

  • Parsons Lane car park – Closed from 7.00am Saturday to 3.00pm Sunday

  • Bolton Street – From Castle Leisure Centre to The Rock (6.00pm Saturday to 1.00pm Sunday)

  • The Rock – (6.00pm Saturday to 1.00pm Sunday)

  • Market Place – (6.00pm Saturday to 1.00pm Sunday)

  • A56 Walmersley Road

  • Bury New Road

  • Bridge Street

  • A676 Bolton Street/Bolton Road West

  • B6214 Longsight Road/Brandlesholme Road

  • B6196 Ainsworth Road, Cockey Moor Road, Church Street, Arthur Lane

  • A676 Bradshaw Road, Ramsbottom Road, Bolton Road

Other key information

  • Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

  • Any road that connects with the closed routes listed will also be closed at the junction point.

  • Drivers are urged to allow extra time for their journey and avoid the affected areas where possible.
