A serving Bury councillor has defected to Reform UK, becoming the party’s second representative on the local authority.
Glyn Marsden, who represents Radcliffe West, confirmed on 25 February that he has joined Reform UK.
Councillor Marsden has lived and worked in Bury throughout his life and works as a transport manager alongside his council duties.
Announcing his decision, he said, “I am pleased to be joining Reform UK today — my natural political home. Over the past four years, I have been proud to serve residents as the Councillor for Radcliffe West. However, it has become clear that the party I was elected under is limited in what it can deliver, and Radcliffe deserves the change it was promised.
“I believe Reform UK is the only party offering real hope for Radcliffe, with policies that best reflect my values and serve both the town and the country.
“I look forward to working alongside my fellow Reform councillor to deliver the change Radcliffe needs.”
A spokesperson for Reform UK said, “We are delighted to welcome Glyn to Reform UK. He is an excellent addition to our growing team in Bury as we build towards the May elections.”
The move changes the political make up of Bury Council, where Reform UK now holds two seats.
It is not yet clear whether the party Councillor Marsden was originally elected under will seek to contest the seat at the next election.
