RSC production to visit major cities from October 2025 to January 2027
The Royal Shakespeare Company’s Matilda the Musical is heading back on tour across the UK and Ireland, with performances confirmed in Manchester, Liverpool, Bradford and beyond.
The award-winning production, based on Roald Dahl’s much-loved story, begins its run at Curve, Leicester on 6 October 2025 and finishes at the Wales Millennium Centre in January 2027.
Local audiences will be able to catch the show in Manchester at the Palace Theatre from 26 March to 25 April 2026. It will also visit the Liverpool Empire over the Christmas period, from 2 December 2025 to 4 January 2026.
Originally developed by the RSC in Stratford-upon-Avon in 2010, Matilda the Musical quickly transferred to the West End, where it earned widespread critical acclaim. It went on to win a record seven Olivier Awards in 2012, four Tony Awards in the US, and has since toured globally.
The show features a script by Dennis Kelly and music by comedian and songwriter Tim Minchin. It tells the story of a young girl with extraordinary powers who stands up to injustice at home and at school.
Tour stops also include Bradford, Sunderland, Plymouth, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Bristol, Norwich and Milton Keynes.
The RSC said the tour continues its mission to make theatre accessible, with £10 ticket schemes supported by TikTok and funding from Arts Council England and the Culture Recovery Fund.
A spokesperson for the company said the show’s success reflects the strength of Roald Dahl’s storytelling and the impact theatre can have on younger audiences.
