Polling stations in the Tottington by election closed at 10pm, with counting getting under-way and a result expected we believe at about 1.30am.

Voters across Tottington, Walshaw and Affetside went to the polls today, Thursday 2nd April, to elect a new representative to Bury Council following the resignation of former councillor Luis McBriar.

Polling stations have been open from 7am until 10pm, with ballot boxes being transported to the count where verification and counting is taking place overnight.

Five candidates are contesting the seat, representing Labour, the Conservatives, the Green Party, Reform UK and Together for Bury.

Turnout figures are expected to be released alongside the final result once counting has been completed.

The by-election comes ahead of wider local elections scheduled across the borough in May, where a further set of council seats will be contested.

The live blog will refresh with updates.
